School Psychologist

 General Qualifications:

  • Valid Type 73 School Service Personnel Certificate
  • Master's degree or higher in psychology or educational psychology with a specialization in school psychology from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Successfully completion of an Illinois approved program for the preparation of school psychologists
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Excellent attention to details
  • Demonstrated evidence of leadership ability and the art of working effectively with parents and colleagues

 

Reports to: Building Administrator(s)/Director of Special Education

Terms of Employment:

  • Wages, hours, terms, and conditions of employment in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Board and the Danville Education Association

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Provide services to school personnel on behalf of children. The school psychologist shall provide consultation and in-service training experience to school personnel.
  2. Conduct individual psychological evaluations and interpret all findings and making recommendations which will lead to meaningful educational experience for the child.
  3. Counsel and perform psychological remedial measures as appropriate to the needs of students, individually or in groups.
  4. Participate in parent education and the development of parent understanding.
  5. Consult with teachers and other school personnel in relation to behavior management and learning problems.
  6. Consult in the development of academic and behavioral interventions
  7. Maintain liaison among directors, principals, teachers, parents, students, appropriate personnel, and community agencies providing assistance to improve the quality of service.
  8. Determine student’s ability to learn and the most appropriate instructional strategies and techniques.
  9. Communicate information clearly and concisely in multidisciplinary conferences.
  10. Write understandable and meaningful evaluation reports in standard form.
